ree

Mr & Mrs Jones from Llanarth with a penny their son found in the back garden. They brought several coins along to our roadshow and amongst them we spotted this:

An 1863 Penny with die number 4 below date. There are very few examples known of the die number pennies. Freeman rated them R19 in The Bronze Coinage of Great Britain. Of all the coins you could find in the garden, to find this is remarkable!

Coming up in our auction of 12-13 November 2024, estimate £1000 - £1500.

Update: This item sold in our auction for £1100 hammer.
