Lockdales is proud to offer the estate collections of the late David Fayers in our forthcoming July Coins & Exonumia, and Medals & Militaria auctions.
DAVID RICHARD FAYERS
21 April 1952 - 18 January 2024
David lived all his life in King's Lynn and was a member of a well-known local family who had operated in the town as funeral directors; the business having been founded by his great-grandfather.
On taking early retirement from the business, he was able to pursue his great interest in collecting coins, medals and other forms of militaria, as well as gold and silver items. He travelled all over East Anglia and beyond to buy pieces, attending markets and viewing specialist collections. He also ran stalls, notably in King's Lynn, Norwich and at Fakenham. David was very knowledgeable and discerning, as his various collections of quality indicate.
While astute as to what to buy, and what would sell, he was regarded by other dealers and the wider public as being very fair in his business dealings and a truly decent person. Messages left at his very well attended funeral service at King's Lynn Minster (St Margaret's) paid tribute to the warm affection and regard in which he was widely held.
David's coins coming up in Lockdales' 16-17 July auction include proof sets such as 1902, 1911 and 1937; gold Guineas; early Sovereigns; choice milled; Wreath Crowns; and some scarce world pieces.
His medals, to be sold 30-31 July feature Crimean interest; a WWII DFC casualty; a DFM Path Finder; NGS; MGS; and much more.
It is a tremendous honour to present to you these life-time collections of the late David Fayers, a well-known figure and character in the collecting community.
