POSTCARDS

Our auctions regularly offer a wide range of postcards, with many interesting examples from the late-19th and early 20th Centuries. Such postcards are enduringly popular, especially those printed by photographic development.
Other popular cards include woven silks from the First World War, and early exhibition souvenirs. Cards relating to the Suffragettes, to obscure railway stations, or to the Titanic can be especially popular. Early postcards provide an important record of social history and events. They were often produced by independent professional photographers in limited print runs. Many postcard collectors aim to specialise in the cards of their local area.
