Collectors are typically looking for early issues, often No. 1 from pre-1970 series, or the first appearances of classic villains, or iconic cover designs.  Otherwise comics are usually sold in collections, but can still produce surprising results.  British comics from the 1970s or earlier attract robust interest such as Beano issue 452 in 1951, where Dennis the Menace made his first appearance.
