working with

our local community

in 2020

We are delighted to announce Lockdales have chosen to support MIND through the local MIND charity shop based in Ipswich, managed by Bogna Skorczak along with her dedicated and passionate team of volunteers.

An unexpected discovery made by charity volunteer at Ipswich’s M I N D Charity Shop has turned out to be the springboard for a new working relationship.

The Ipswich Star published a local story which created a bit of a stir when devoted volunteer, Wendy Marsh came upon a rare signed first edition hardback copy of Roald Dahl’s ‘Danny the Champion of the World’.

Upon reading that they would be looking for a book expert to help them with a valuation, Lockdales sent staff member Alan McIlwain to offer our help in the matter. He valued the book giving it a low estimate of around £300 and store manager Bogna Skorczak was over the moon when we offered to enter the book into our October fine sale auction giving it the

best chance of exposure via our global online auction platforms.

Ironically, it was bought by a keen phone bidder from just down the road from us in Essex, who won against another phone bidder with the hammer dropping down at £600.

With the full proceeds going to MIND charity, it was an auspicious day throughout as coincidentally it also happened to be October 10th World Mental Health Awareness day.
