Selling with Lockdales
As a leading Suffolk-based auctioneer of coins, jewellery, watches, militaria, collectables, fine art and antiques, we're your perfect partner for achieving a market-leading result at auction. Our team of professionals combine unrivalled experience with dedication to the highest levels of customer service.
Step One: Request a valuation
The first step is to have your items or collection assessed by one of our valuers.
Our valuations are offered free of charge, with no obligation.
1. Please use our online contact form or email us directly to request a valuation, including a detailed description of the item and most importantly, a few high quality and clear photographs, including any key details.

Email: valuations@lockdales.com
2. Our valuers will be back in touch with advice shortly, after assessing your photographs and description.
3. If we feel your item would be suitable for our specialist auctions, or if we need to see it in person for more clarity, you will be offered an appointment with the appropriate valuer at our main premises to bring in your item and discuss the next steps.
Please note that in-person valuations at our main premises are strictly by appointment. We cannot take receipt of items unless prior agreement has been made with one of our valuers.
Step Two: Sale options
After one of Lockdales' experts has given you a full appraisal of your items and what prices they believe they are likely to achieve at auction, what you choose to do next is entirely up to you. You will never be pressured to make a decision.
Private treaty cash exchange could be your best option, depending on circumstances, but we will always advise if consignment would be in your best interest. Should you decide that you would like to go ahead we will guide you through the process step-by-step.
Consigning to auction
Our experts' estimated value of your items will dictate whether consignment is an option. This decision will be based upon whether in the expert's opinion, a realistic total reserve can be set at a viable minimum threshold, which will vary according to the auction category. If this cannot be met, we may still offer you a direct cash purchase (Private Treaty) as an alternative option.
MORE INFORMATION ABOUT AUCTION CONSIGNMENT
Private treaty
Private treaty is simply another terminology for a direct cash sale. Depending on value, circumstance or choice, you may choose the simpler, faster option to sell your items directly to the auction house for cash.
